We Have A Safe House!

A Safe House Just A Few Miles Away!
This holiday season has brought some tremendous insight on our community's compassion toward children and adults sexually exploited. Our northwest suburban community is just one piece of a big puzzle for those in need all over the world. At times it can be daunting to think about. But, on occasion where there is good news, we take the time to rally together in a common place of community and celebrate!

We have a house that has been donated to Refuge for Women Chicago to use short term to get the ministry started and it resides within 5 miles of Willow Creek Community Church South Barrington! I hope this inspires you to roll up your sleeves, open your hands and ask, "how can I serve?" Our first call to action is to share and like them on Facebook!

Anne Rand and our volunteer team would love to celebrate with you Wednesday, December 10th at the Human Trafficking Concert at 7:30 pm in the Chapel of Willow Creek Community Church. We have the honor of spending time with Refuge for Women and they have brought all guests compassion bracelets to consecrate for those sexually exploited this holiday season. Shawn Christopher will lead us with prayer for the safe house, and special vocalists will sing joyfully to raise awareness with their gifts in the arts. The Chapel Lobby will provide shopping for the holidays to support local anti-trafficking organizations. Please bring extra cash or check to purchase all that's available. We suggest you register for this free event on Eventbrite and invite others by clicking here!

We also want to challenge you this holiday season to give to organizations in the fight against human trafficking. Our community forums have presented many different organizations to support. In the holiday season there are many creative opportunities to show your support. Shopping for gifts crafted by survivors, gifting to survivors, auction items online, and special deals. There has never been a better time to give! Our Human Trafficking Learning Community is also hosting a Frozen Character Dining Sing Along and Christmas Program night! This party is free of charge on Monday December 22nd from 5pm to 9pm. We continue our efforts in strengthening the community with values for our next generation of leadership as our first line of prevention! Click here to register!

Canceled! No Bus to Kentucky!

In my first outreach while serving with Eve's Angels, I had about 10 phone calls, 4 meet ups, and 200 text messages with a gal who was an exotic dancer and prostitute in a Chicago strip club. We met and developed a relationship where I encouraged her and would pray in texts as she would have a shift. We discussed goals and reviewed plans and resources. One weekend she announced she could not do "it", she would arrive to work but would end up just sittng in the back. My eyes on the other end of the phone widened. Suddenly, it was up to me to calm her and reassure her there was a next step.

She needed restoration, healing, and a program that would come along side her. She was "tired" and trust me, most couldn't walk one mile in her shoes. I was referred to call "Ked, in Kentucky" at Refuge for Women.
I was nervous and did not feel equipped to even make the phone call. Refuge for Women took care of the both of us for intake so she could have housing long term. All I had to do was get her to the bus, easy!?

Two days later we were at the bus station and I spiritually grew up about 100 years.I could feel her fear and doubt of facing some of her past during the program. We all can relate to closing the door on our past, and never attempting to share it with anyone, ever. My faith remained steadfast as I constantly tried to discuss with God my doubt and worry. The downtown station for her overnight ride was not exactly visually comforting. There was a four hour wait in the  middle of the night also. She was vulnerable and I couldn't stay with her for the ride.God kept anchoring a "period" at the end of each of my thoughts. I would say in my head "God, she isn't going to get on the bus, even if she does, she's not ready, she will leave at the next stop." God would reply with a ".", that's it, end of sentence, end of that thought. It was a feeling of God hearing me and understanding my concern, but dismissing my worry because He was in control. Long story short, she made it to Kentucky.

Since then, I have visited the Refuge in Kentucky. I explained to Ked that I never wanted to sit at a bus station again. I dream of the day when our volunteers can be with the women we were blessed to build relationships with as they are in the program so that our community can support them along the way. Will you help us cancel all bus tickets to Kentucky?

Out there is a house to be donated and we need to find it! None of us are doing enough to help, but all of us can attend the fundraising event.Today, mark your calendar for October 24th to officially open Refuge for Women Chicago to help women who are exploited and trafficked. Find a babysitter, cancel your plans, do whatever it takes to be there. If you don't "donate" ever, start on Oct. 24th with a small monthly give or share the event with others. From the bottom of my heart, I vow to cancel the bus to Kentucky.

Unforgettable Outreach Moments

Today we made phone calls to ads on backpage.com offering resources and prayer during a New-Name Ministry Call Center in South Barrington. Out of the 16 phone calls, during a particular call we prayed with a girl and I noticed she was in the car  with a friend. As usual we made the next call to another random ad. The next phone call went as follows:

Us: "Hi, my name is -------, we saw ads you had posted and are wondering if we could pray for you or help you with any resources?"

Girl:"yah, I just prayed with you as you were on the phone with my friend and wanted to know if you can pray for me too?" So we laughed with pure joy out loud at the coincidence and prayed together again. What are the chances that the ads pulled and printed to call from days prior would be dialed to two ladies in the same car resulting in out loud laughter and encouragement!

As volunteers serving, we believe we can "do" all things through Christ that strenghtens us, but more importantly, that those we serve can do all things through Christ who strengthens them...

Updates:

...a new baby of a safe and proud mama who has reconciled with her mother
